GenderInSITE at Gender Summit 11 - North America
From 6-8 November, more than 600 participants will gather at Gender Summit 11 - North America in Montreal, Canada to explore the theme of “Embracing pluralism and thriving through diversity – shaping science and innovation.”
The Gender Summits are a series of international conferences that provide a platform for scientists, policymakers, gender scholars and stakeholders in science systems to examine new research and evidence showing when, why, and how biological differences (sex) and socio-cultural differences (gender) between females and males impact on outcomes. Their aim is to reach consensus on where improvements to science knowledge and science practice are needed and who should take action.
GenderInSITE will participate in a panel at GS11 on "Best Practices: Global Perspectives on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in STEM." This session will examine global initiatives that aim to promote the role of women and diversity in STEM, or that contribute to increasing access for girls and women to education and careers in STEM fields. The goal is to present projects that aim to actively attract more women to research, promote their participation in universities and advance their careers. Representatives of various countries will report on their national or international gender programs.
The panel will be moderated by Maryse Lassonde, Scientific Director at FRQNT and President of the Royal Society of Canada. Speakers will include:

- Liette Vasseur, Professor of biology and UNESCO Chair in Community Sustainability: from local to global, Brock University
- Wanda Ward, Senior Advisor, U.S. National Science Foundation
The panel will take place as a parallel session on Tuesday, 7 November, from 12:00-13:15.
