The panel, which is organized by GenderInSITE's regional focal point for Southern Africa at the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), will take place on Wednesday, 9 December from 9:00- 10:30 under the third cycle of thematic parallel sessions. It will be moderated by TWAS Executive Director Romain Murenzi and will include panellists Jennifer Thomson, Chair of OWSD South African National Chapter and Peggy Oti-Boateng, GenderInSITE regional focal point for East Africa.

A strategic initiative of Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor, the Science Forum South Africa is inspired by events such as EuroScience Open Forum, the Annual Meeting of AAAS, and the Japan Science Agora. The title is "Igniting conversations about science," with key objectives to create a platform for a vibrant debate on the role of science, technology and innovation and society in South Africa; strengthen the country's strategic international science, technology and innovation partnerships; and to create a platform for senior government leaders, academics, scientists, industry, civil society, and students to interact.
